Writing Rates

I hate talking about money! I really want to make the world a better place and believe providing clear, honest communications is a good place to start. If I could work for free I would. But, good karma doesn’t pay the bills. SO, I’ve given some hard thought to what I charge for my health writing services.

In the end, I used a formula factoring in:

  • Over 20 years of medical and scientific experience as a dietitian
  • 20 years of expertise in web marketing and communications
  • 20+ years of reading countless health articles, research studies, and medical information
  • standard writing rates from the EFA

It is impossible to accurately give a price on a writing or web project without knowing all the details. Some topics are easier to write about than others and website complexity varies greatly. But, I do understand that budgeting is important, so I offer the following guidelines:

Per Hour Project Rates

My rates vary from $50-100/hour depending on the complexity of the project. I prefer per hour pricing for new projects because I think it offers the fairest terms. You pay only for the time spent on your project – no more. If it helps to allay your fears regarding the variability of paying by the hour, I can establish a cap on projects that are more basic in nature. Once you are an established client, paying per project or on retainer may work best for you.

Writing or Web Content Management Retainer

Just like any good sale, the more you buy the better the savings. If you know you want to work with me on a long term project for a minimum number of hours, I can offer you a monthly retainer agreement at a lower rate. Retainer agreements work great for web management, monthly e-newsletters, or social media management.

I’m not the cheapest writer or web manager, nor am I the most expensive, but I do believe I am priced very competitively. More importantly, I’m good at what I do. I approach every project with plans for perfection and efficiency teamed with a broad knowledge of marketing, consumer psychology, medical science, and design. WARNING – You really do get what you pay for. I’ve had clients contact me after being burned by writers who produced poor quality content that didn’t deliver results, and I know of many small companies that have waited weeks to have web updates made.

The way you communicate to the world is a reflection of who you are. So, I guess the final question is …what’s that worth to you? Contact Me to receive a customized quote for your project.
